The Covid restrictions eased quite substantially during 2022. This enabled us to continue practising and play competitive bowls on our all weather playing surface for early 2023. The club house and changing rooms can now be used safely. The wearing of face coverings has now eased, with an optional choice for this.
There is now no need to book a rink through the club secretary. Bowlers can now just turn up to play. There are organised roll-ups every weekday afternoon, arriving by 1-00 PM for a 1-15 PM start, subject to rink space. There is also a practice session Wednesday mornings, to arrive by 9-00 AM for a 9-15 start. Traditionally this ‘roll up’ was for the men’s Over 55’s practice but now the ladies have been welcomed to join in. All these practice sessions are enjoyed 12 months of the year, weather permitting, thanks to the synthetic playing surface.
The HeraldExpress paper did not show KBC’s league results against neighbouring clubs during the 2022 season but the Mid Devon Advertiser did. Both newspapers were happy to publish news of in-house functions/events and competitions, ideally supported with photos. This process will continue through 2023.
Bowls England mounted a full domestic programme during 2022 for national competitions, including county matches.
It is expected that a routine Summer season for 2023 will take place.
There is an Open Day at our club on 30th April. Winners from the Winter season will be awarded by the KIngsteignton Mayor. This occasion is also the forerunner to the Summer season with the mayor casting the first bowl on our new all-weather surface.
Further information will be posted when available.
