About Our Club

Our club opened its gates in 1985 and is set in a beautiful, peaceful area, with the backdrop of the local church (St Michael’s) in the old village of Kingsteignton.  We pride ourselves on being a friendly club, happy to welcome all new members of any age and ability. Wheelchair access is also available and wheelchair users are more than welcome.

We have an excellent outdoor synthetic surface, consisting of four rinks, allowing bowls to be played all year round. Beginners are welcome to come and have a go, using equipment provided by the club before having to buy bowls and shoes for themselves. For use on the bowls green, smooth soled shoes with no heel are required. Traditionally, white tops and grey trousers/skirts are worn on the green but since late 2019, for practice games only (roll ups), casual attire is allowed (relaxed dress code), which is optional at our club through 2022.  N.B: – For those of you that have ventured to view our Application Form, which is a link from the Membership heading, you’ll notice in the notes that it stipulates that white tops & grey bottoms are the order of the day for roll ups. This has presently been superseded by the optional wearing of casual clothes as stated above.

Any tuition given by some of our experienced bowlers is free of charge to new members. Bowlers new to the game  will get all the help and encouragement they need.

There is a thriving programme of bowling to suit all abilities. Informal ‘roll-ups’ (practice) take place most weekday afternoons throughout the year commencing at 1-15 PM and there are monthly social evenings in the Winter months. Wednesday mornings, from 9-15 AM, is traditionally men’s Over 55’s practice but, lately, the ladies are now permitted to join this ‘roll up’ and the session has become quite social. The club would normally run a team in the men’s Mid Devon League (MDL) but for this year (2022), due mainly to the intensely high standard the MDL can bring, on a majority vote, our members have elected not to participate in the MDL. A new league has now been formed, namely The South Devon Mixed Bowls league. A few clubs having dropped out of the MDL, similar to us, have signed up for this new league. A fixture list of this new league can be viewed under ‘Fixtures’ heading/tab. It is proposed that the men’s Over 55’s league will return to normal for the 2022 season. Our ladies are on track for their South Devon Ladies Bowls league (SDLBL) and matches will be resumed for this Summer. There is a list of dates for this league under the ‘Fixtures’ heading/tab. We have played Mixed Friendly matches and internal competitions during the 2022 Winter. Again, regarding Friendly matches, a list of these games, with dates, can be viewed under the ‘Fixtures’ heading for the 2022 season. Although the In House competitions are a little more serious, The Mixed Friendly matches usually prove to be great competitive fun against neighbouring clubs.

The club house is equipped with a kitchen and a social area which hosts the regular fun packed social evenings. The changing rooms have lockers to store bowlers’ equipment and the toilet facilities include a separate disabled toilet.

To conclude, our club offers a very attractive package for all.  Why not come along and give bowls a try?
